Scout Moor Wind Farm, operational from 2008, is a 26-turbine development on moorland in the South Pennines situated between the village of Edenfield, Lancashire, and the town of Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Each of the Nordex N80 turbines has the capacity to generate 2.5MW of electricity, which means that the wind farm has an installed capacity of 65MW.
Between 2009-2013, the wind farm has generated enough electricity to meet the needs of nearly 200,000 homes - equivalent to meeting the needs of the Rochdale Council area for 26 years.
The moor and the wind farm are accessible via a number of public footpaths such as that leading from the parking area along Edenfield Road, opposite Owd Betts public house. The Pennine Bridleway runs very close to the site.
