Introduction

The Greater Manchester Biodiversity Action plan (GM BAP) aims to provide an over-arching document across all ten disticts in Greater Manchester; these are Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Trafford, Tameside and Wigan. The overall aim of the GM BAP is:

"To promote the conservation, protection and enhancement of biological diversity in Greater Manchester for current and future generations".

The Greater Manchester audit identified those species and habitats that are of local conservation importance and require action in order to conserve and protect them. Those habitats and species selected for the GM BAP were included for the following reasons:

Each habitat is linked to a PDF version of the specific 2009 BAP for that habitat. These BAPs include a description of the ecology, priority habitat, current status and distribution, factors affecting the habitat, current actions, objectives and targets, proposed actions and best practice guidlines. Each BAP may contain added sections depending on the habitat.

These BAPs include a description of the ecology, the habitat, current status and distribution, factors affecting the species, current actions, objectives and targets, proposed actions and best practice guidlines. Each BAP may contain added sections depending on the species.

*These action plans are currently the outdated 2003 versions and require updating to the 2009 format.
